Sacred Spaces: Ancient and Contemporary

As 21st century Americans, we seem less connected in lives and our social networks have deteriorated significantly.  These connections need to be repaired.  Please take some time to explore this year’s new addition to the Festival: “Sacred Spaces: Ancient and Contemporary”.  Through a combination of educational and experiential areas, we hope to encourage thought and begin conversations about the various places we hold most dear.

Find your own ways to utilize to utilize these spaces.  Take this opportunity for self-reflection and “quality alone time”.  Others may choose to share the experience with loved ones.  Be introspective, mindful or thoughtful, if you wish.  Pray or meditate, feel or think.  There are no wrong ways.  Our hope is that the Festival will give you the desire to carry what you encounter here back to the wider world and continue Mending Our Web.

Brent Posey: Education Committee and “Sacred Spaces: Ancient and Contemporary

Brent’s goal is for all of us to have an opportunity to educate, enjoy, grow, play, enlighten, empower, learn and teach each other.  Ideally this will occur here at the 39th Annual Whole Earth Festival and in our daily lives.  Developing and repairing our relationships with loved ones and members of the broader community is one way of “Mending Our Web”.  Having attended the Festival for twenty-something years, Brent wants to give back to the event that has been his family’s favorite Mother’s Day tradition for decades.  During WEF 2007 he was amongst the reported 300 volunteers, the Karma Patrol (aka KP), that sustain the Festival for its three days.  If you enjoy yourself this weekend, tell your friends and come back next year.

Brent moved to Davis during the winter of 2006-2007 and has discovered a passion for sustainable agriculture.  Northern California and Yolo County are fortunate to have many organic farms that allow us the option of participating in the local and organic food movement.  Using products from this area is good for the economy and our “tummies”.  Ask your grocer, “Where does this produce come from?”  Ask yourself, “Is it worth having fruits and vegetables shipped from across the country when the same food, often of better quality, is available right here at home?  Do we want to continue polluting or land, air and water with harmful pesticides and fertilizers?”  It is not too late to make small choices.  It is the little things we do that make a difference.  Allow your shopping and spending habits to reflect the values you hold.

Enjoy your time with us at 2008’s Whole Earth Festival and be well!!
