Many images of past WEFs
exist. But most are in people's private collections. The images shown here taken before 1983 were found buried in the Whole Earth Festival archives (aka, storeroom) - the photographers are unknown. Robert Toren has done most of the photos 1979-1981 - his initials are on slides that have his name on them. I think most of the others are also his, though not labeled. Harpo also took slides during that era. Glen Erickson has photographed WEF since 1981 - his initials are on his images. Reev Solis was photographer in the mid-eighties - I think the unlabelled images from 1985-1987 are mostly his work. Daniel Ng has photographed WEF since 1988 - most of the images since then are his, and are not labeled with his initials. Photo credits: Photos taken by Glen Erickson will be labeled (GE), ones by Teena Stockert marked (TS), ones by Russ Watts (RW), and ones by Robert Toren (RT). Harpo's name is on some images.(RS) is Rick Sheridan, staffer in 2004. And (WB) is William Bruyette, staffer in 2004 and 2005. Cindy Scott Duke is a staffer from the 80's - her initials are, of course, (CSD). Tao Wysocki's photos are labelled "Tao". He is Co-Director in 2005. And Peter Moyes (PM) is a longtime staff and stage manager/crew. We thank all the photographers for contributing a glimpse of WEFs of long ago. Almost all the images on these pages taken after 1987 are by Daniel Ng, with no special label. All the images on this site are copyrighted by the Whole Earth Festival and the individual photographers. Please, do not use these images without the permission of the photographers and WEF. These images will be updated constantly, as I find time to dig into my negatives and slides and scan them. Or, as y'all send me your photos! If you have photos that you would like to share, please email me. We are also trying to compile lists of staff members from the past years - that information is scarce, so please help us archive our memories! Any kind of information and stories are welcome - they make the past years of WEF become more alive! Lois Richter, vendor greeter for many years, has started a project to photograph crafts vendors over the years. Here's a link to her website - go take a look! http://GoTouring.com/wef/ Turtle Vision has many WEF images on their site. |
